Sage: The Elm Hill Project

The chicken coop we will build for the Elm Hill Farm is a traditional shed style building measuring 10 by 14 feet. At its highest point it will measure 8 feet sloping to the back height of 6 feet. The building will be mounted on wood skids to allow for easy relocation should the need arise. The underside of the coop will be covered by hardware cloth to reduce the chance of rodent entry. Exterior walls will be plank sided and the roof will be shingled with 25 year asphalt shingles (unless someone has a 12 by 16 foot piece of rubber roofing they don't need).

The interior of the coop will be well lighted and ventilated by a number of windows placed front and back. An interior wall will divide the main coop from the entry way. This will allow for an airlock system to prevent letting chickens out when that is not intended. A pop hole will allow chickens access to and from the coop when that is desired. The three foot area created by the entryway will also house individual laying bins. The main area of the chicken house will have an 11 foot roost, food trough and water container. The back wall will have a removable section to allow for coop cleaning.

The following list details donation amounts and what the amount will help buy. Larger items like the feeder, water container, laying bins and doors will also carry the name of those who donated specifically to them. This will be in addtion to the plaque listing all donors to be mounted in the main area of the coop. Please help us make this the Hilton Head of chicken coops!
